“Men and Women: Their Gender Differences and Attraction Toward Opposite Sex” - Professor M.S.Rao

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; It will never Pass into nothingness.” ― John Keats

When male soldiers are kept away from women during their military training period they develop more curiosity and interest towards women. They often think more about women and constantly crave for women. Is it case of women as well?  Yes.  When women stay in women hostels they develop more attraction towards men and they constantly crave for men. However, women cannot exhibit openly unlike men who exhibit openly.  Men show their attention and attraction towards women by looking at them and often gazing at them while women cannot show their attention and attraction towards men due to gender and culture.

When women study in women’s educational institutions they also develop more interest towards men and crave for male attention. They may not develop emotional intelligence needed to get along with men and manage men as they don’t get opportunity to interact during their college education.  Similarly, male soldiers may not develop emotional intelligence needed to get along and manage women although they are effective in handling and leading men.

In any communication the oral language constitutes 7 percent; voice modulation 38 percent; and body language 55 percent. It is observed that women are strong in voice modulation while men are strong in body language. Women are often strong in gauging the emotions, egos and feelings of others while men are often strong in looking at others. Zsa Zsa Gabor rightly quoted, “One of my theories is that men love with their eyes; women love with their ears."

When we look at the intelligence levels, men take longer time to understand various things while women can easily understand various things. In fact, men take longer time to understand whether the other person is friendly or hostile. Researchers at Edinburgh University recently conducted a study that revealed men take longer to assess facial expression and read people’s emotions as compared to women.

Women think very deep while men cannot think deep, and men often blame that it is tough to understand women’s mind and heart.  Men are not good at understanding others’ subtle gestures while women are smart at understanding subtle gestures.

There are three types of learners such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic in the classroom. It is observed that women predominantly enjoy listening the subject while the men enjoy looking at the visuals.  There are a few learners who appreciate a blend of visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

It is observed that women are smart in multitasking while men are not. Although multitasking is not appreciated it is widely prevalent in the corporate world.  Phyllis McGinley quotes, “A lady is smarter than a gentleman, maybe; she can sew a fine seam, she can have a baby, she can use her intuition instead of her brain, but she can't fold a paper in a crowded train.”

It is essential to understand these basic differences to develop emotional intelligence towards opposite sex and create compatibility and chemistry to promote cordial relations at home and ensure productivity and performance at the workplace.
