In one of my recent leadership
training programs, a participant asked me ‘Can an individual make a
difference?’ I responded as follows:
Society is a collection of individuals.
When all individuals think of contributing to others, they can make a
difference. When you look at Mahatma Gandhi he was an individual who mobilized
people to achieve India’s independence. When you look at Martin Luther King Jr
a civil rights leader, he was an individual who inspired people to work for the
equality of blacks on par with whites. When you look at Mother Teresa, she was
an individual who worked for poor and leper in India. Nelson Mandela made a
difference by abolishing apartheid in South Africa. Likewise, we have a number
of leaders who inspired and led their people to make a difference to the society.
Hence,
you can make a difference in the lives of others as an individual by leading
from the front. Give something for others with a big heart. It helps the
society prosper and you become great as well. Remember, you get what you give.
