“The heart is a strange beast and not
ruled by logic.” ― Maria V. Snyder, Touch
of Power
Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar’s
marriage cost the life of Sunanda who loved Shashi from the core of her heart.
Shashi was an amazing personality with a philosophical mindset and mesmerizing
voice. But the destiny took the other way with the advent of another woman,
Mehr Tarar – a single mother and a Pakistan journalist. Sunanda could not
digest the entry of another woman - Mehr Tarar and suspected an affair between
her and Shashi. Sunanda was possessive about Sashi. She must have felt insecure
with the entry of Mehr Tarar and was worried that she might lose Shashi to her.
Finally, she took the extreme step of ending her life.
It seems that it is a case of failed
communication and taking things for granted. If Sunanda suspected that Sashi had
an alleged affair with Mehr Tarar she should have clarified with Shashi about
his stand. Shashi too should have taken initiative to clarify his stand to
Sunanda. Probably Shashi took Sunanda for granted. He never that Sunanda would
take extreme step to end her life. Another
aspect to note here is that when people have pre-conceived notions the realities
don’t go to their heads. They enter into an imaginative world with lots of
insecurities. Then emotions come to the fore and managing emotions is a highly
challenging issue for human beings.
There are a number of lessons to learn
from Sunanda and Sashi episode. A woman can often become enemy for another
woman. Don’t take woman for granted. Communicate clearly when you feel that
there is an issue. Men in public places must take precautions about their
personal lives to avoid getting noticed by media for wrong reasons. Check your emotions and ensure that emotions
don’t overtake the realities. Committing
suicide is not only a crime but also a sin as the person is kicking God’s gift
of life. Life is full of challenges. Learn to live fully. Above all, a woman
can make a man stumble and tumble!
“A lot of women don't know how to vent
and deal with emotions.” - Picabo Street
