Politicians are the biggest scapegoats
in India. You might not agree with this statement. But it is mostly true. Here
goes the story of the life of a politician in India:
People in India often blame
politicians for all the problems. They vent their anger and frustration against
politicians for all their ills. And politicians swallow them with smiles. People rarely forget the fact that they get
the government they deserve. They forget that politicians come from the people
and it is they who elected them as their leaders.
The job of a politician is very
challenging one. It is the round-the-clock job. Politicians have to smile constantly
in spite of disliking many people and things. They cannot blame people for some
of the problems. If they talk against
people they lose their votes. Hence, they find it highly challenging to balance
the people and the sensitive issues. There are several things that they cannot reveal
openly as their political opponents will take advantage to crush them
politically. They have to be constantly with the people and they cannot assess
who are their followers and detractors. They have to spend money from their
pockets to get seats and most of them lose their money. Those who come to power
are not sure whether they will get the key posts and positions. Therefore, politics
in India is a big gamble where only a few succeed while the majority fails.
This is the observation of young politicians who are entering into politics.
Apart from this, they must be ready for brickbats as some frustrated people
throw slippers at them. And the politicians must swallow such insults. Worse,
the political opponents will play several games that land them behind the bars.
The job of a politician is very hard.
Unfortunately, many people think that the job of a politician is easy and
politicians make money easily. It is the case of a few politicians who mint
money, not with all politicians. Most politicians sacrifice their personal
lives. They cannot balance their personal, professional and social life. After
sacrificing several things they may get into power which is again short-lived.
The job of a politician is mostly a thankless
job. A few politicians succeed while the majority hit the abyss. If you truly
want to serve people without craving for power, you can consider entering into
politics. If you are ready to encounter unhealthy criticism and personal
attacks; and want to sacrifice your family life, you can consider entering into
politics. Remember, the life of a politician is not a bed of roses. It is a bed
of thorns. People always keep you under vigil. If you do one wrong thing,
people will forget the 99 good things done by you. They will never excuse you
for your one mistake. Therefore, think before entering into politics.
Note: I have written this article to
highlight unexplored life of a politician in India. It is for the people to
empathize with politicians and it is for the new entrants to weigh all options before
entering into politics.
