“Do Indians Respect Self-Made Leaders?” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Great leaders are not born, they are developed…fired in the crucible of experience and opportunity.” – Aristotle

In India, Congress party ruled for many years under the leadership of Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi. Presently Sonia Gandhi is leading the party and Rahul Gandhi is in the line to take over the Congress leadership. At the same time, there are self-made leaders like Narendra Modi who took over the reins of government. That means, previously people accepted the dynastic rule as there was no effective alternative self-made leader like Modi. It is also proved beyond that Indians respect self-made leaders who rose from humble origins rather than the ones through dynasty.

There are different schools of thought about leadership whether leaders are born or made. Most people believe that leaders are made rather than born. In fact, leadership is a blend of both nature and nurture. Some are partly acquired through heredity (nature) while the majority is acquired through learning, experience and practice (nurture).

Indians voted Modi for his humble origins and his ability to perform as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Modi provided a ray of hope for the middle and poor people in India. Hence, they voted. He is a great orator with an autocratic leadership style. People preferred him as he is a workaholic and symbol of commitment and performance. Hence, we must overcome the myth that Indians respect leaders from heredity background only. If they find a suitable strong leader who can fill the vacuum, they prefer self-made leaders who can walk their talk to dynastic leaders. Therefore, there are plenty of opportunities for ambitious self-made leaders in India to lead our nation. Jai Hind!

"Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal." – Vince Lombardi

Yes,it is true that all Indian leaders are self-made. But i disagree with the current management scenario because of unemployment rate is getting high day by day in India. I wonder, what about the future of students?
