“Encourage Research among Students” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Research is formalized curiosity.  It is poking and prying with a purpose.” – Zora Hurston

Presently Indian educational institutions don’t encourage research among students.  There are many reasons for it - lack of awareness and interest towards research; students don’t know the significance of research; lack of research ambience in educational institutions; and lack of funds to name a few.

In fact, if students have to excel as well-rounded personalities they must develop research mindset in the educational institutions itself. Most of the students are busy preparing for academic examinations, and they follow model question papers to score marks in the final examinations.  They must come out of such mindset, and study the entire syllabus to have domain knowledge.  They must also do research to know latest developments in the domain as it helps them grow professionally. It all appears to be problematic for Indian students as they are already beset with several academic challenges and pressures.

Students must realize that research is required in the current global context.  Times and technologies are changing rapidly and to keep pace with it, they must focus on research as well. There is growing competition and to stand out from the crowd, research is essential.  Research helps them to catch up with the students of developed countries over a period of time.  Above all, if they want to pursue doctoral qualifications research is a must.   Hence, I implore Indian students to emphasize on research in the educational institutions to come out as full-fledged personalities.
