“Exit Interviews, A Need for Revision” - Professor M.S.Rao

Exit interviews are quite common in most of the companies currently to find out the pulse of the employees who leave the organizations. It is said that employees leave bad bosses, not organizations.  Organizations are often good but it is due to some rotten employees the right talent quits the organizations and joins elsewhere.

Employees leave organizations due to various reasons such as lack of proper compensation, problem with immediate superiors or better opportunities elsewhere. In order to find out the real reasons the companies execute exit interviews to the exiting employees. It serves as a feedback to streamline the system better and check attrition. However, the present pattern needs to be revised through both open and close ended questions to analyze the real reasons for leaving the organizations.

With the changing times and technologies companies need to have innovative exit interviews. What worked in the past might not work in future as the trends have changed fast and the practices have to change accordingly.

“Influence Others with Mirroring Technique” - Professor M.S.Rao

“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” - Dale Carnegie

Everyone wants to influence others and make more friends as it is one of the basic human needs.  However, everyone will not succeed but only a few succeed to impact others. You can use ‘mirroring technique’ to connect and influence others quickly. When you are in a public gathering or group, observe the ambience and get into the situation with a flexible mindset. Listen to the people closely the way they talk, and about the topic. Display your authentic interest to listen to others. Nod your head in agreement with a cheerful note and get an entry into it. Then depending on the situation, and when one of the persons makes a long pause during conversation, initiate and talk briefly by expressing your viewpoints. If you disagree with the views of other person, express it with etiquette in a polite and pleasing language. If you agree to their viewpoint, you can express the same by adding a few more points. Here is how the mirroring technique works:

You must mirror as per the other person based on body language, voice modulation and oral language. You must mould your body language, voice modulation and oral language as per the other person and reciprocate accordingly to create compatibility and chemistry. It requires a lot of practice to adopt mirroring techniques. But it is easy to adopt when you are aware of this technique. All that you need is to possess a positive attitude and mindset to connect with others. If you become an expert in this technique you can not also influence others but also inspire others to make a difference in the lives of others.

“What I would Like to be Remembered for” - Professor M.S.Rao

"Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe." - Gail Devers

Everyday many people are born and dead. How many of them leave a mark for others to follow? How many of them will be remembered after their death? It is a few people, right! We remember personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose to name a few. But we don’t remember others who lived in the past. It is because some leaders are legends who live beyond their times with their contribution to society and mankind. Do you also want to be remembered like them or leave this world like any other insignificant individual? If you want to be remembered beyond your lifetime you must set goals and work for the benefit of others.  Remember that God gave us one life and we are not sure of another life. Hence, create a blueprint - “How I would like to be remembered for” today itself to stand out from others to soar like an eagle. Here are some action steps to follow to create your blueprint to become a legend during your lifetime:

  • Develop clarity about yourself based on your passions considering your age, opportunities, and availability of resources.
  • Choose the passion that is the closest to your heart.
  • Shortlist the one which you can pursue based on your strengths.
  • Invest some time regularly to achieve it.
  • Manage external distractions to ensure that you stay focused on your passions and goals.
  • Build network of friends and followers who respect and appreciate your principles and philosophies and ideas and ideologies.
  • Read relevant books in your area of interest.
  • Take someone as a role model. For instance, Plato took Socrates, Aristotle took Plato; and Alexander took Aristotle as their role models and reached great heights. Swami Vivekananda took Ramakrishna Paramahamsa as his role model and mentor.
  • Develop the attitude of gratitude and make others feel important.
  • Become a servant leader with an emphasis on people-orientation rather than on task-orientation.
  • Reflect your thoughts regularly and renew yourself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
  • Contribute your best without expecting anything from others because what goes around comes around.

To conclude, work with integrity and wisdom with a true heart to make a difference in the lives of others. You will become a living legend.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill
