“Celebrities and their Insecurities” - Professor M.S.Rao

“Uncertainty and mystery are energies of life. Don't let them scare you unduly, for they keep boredom at bay and spark creativity.” - R. I. Fitzhenry

Do you think you alone have insecurities? Do you think that celebrities and high achievers don’t have any insecurities? Then it is time to understand the truth. Everyone has their own insecurities. In fact, high achievers have high insecurities as they have the apprehensions of what to do if they lose their celebrity status. They have insecurities such as what they would do if they lose their name and fame.  Having tasted higher positions and luxurious lifestyle, they are more worried than average and common people.

If two films bomb at box office, the established film stars hit rock bottom psychologically which is not seen by others. They have lots of internal apprehensions and insecurities.  When big stars don’t get hits for some years consecutively they have the apprehension of getting into oblivion. Hence, they are more cautious to maintain their status and fame. They work harder and smarter constantly to maintain what they have. When films bomb they get into financial challenges due to the decrease in their income and increase in their expenditure. They cannot cut down their costs on expenses including maintenance and lifestyle. At times, they have insecurities about their spouses and children. They worry more about media as they should not be in the news for wrong reasons. Likewise, big people have big insecurities and small people have small insecurities.

Make sure that success doesn’t go to your head when you are in peak position of your success. Don’t expect your spouse and children to treat you like a celebrity just because you are in the tipping point of your career.  Keep celebrity status away from your spouse and family members to stay grounded. Whenever you hit lows in your life, your family will come to your rescue and you can easily overcome your apprehensions and insecurities.

Remember, insecurities are an integral part of life. People have apprehensions of losing their employments. Some people have the fear of losing their materialistic wealth and some people have the fear of losing their spouses and beloved ones. Hence, everybody has insecurities and we must be prepared to encounter them squarely with mettle and confidence. The solution to overcome all these insecurities is to work harder and smarter without bothering about failures and setbacks. Everyone must note that neither success is permanent nor failure. German psychoanalyst Eric Fromm once remarked, “The task we must set for ourselves is not to feel secure, but to be able to tolerate insecurity.” You cannot control external environment but you have control over internal environment which is very much in your hands. Above all, never lose your confidence. Reinvent from time to time. Learn, unlearn and relearn. Work hard and smart apart from networking with the people in your area of interest to stay relevant and succeed in your life.

“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.” - John Allen Paulos
